SSG Asset Management Leadership - NEW!
The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) is delighted to launch Subject Specific Guideline (SSG) Asset Management Leadership which provides guidance on leadership within the context of asset management. The document explains how effective leadership at all levels supports strategic alignment, good governance, and the delivery of asset management outcomes across the full asset life cycle.
The guideline recognizes that asset management leadership is not limited to senior roles and that leaders are both within and outside an organization. It describes the behaviours, competencies, and decision‑making required to motivate people, align activities, and manage assets responsibly. It also explains how governance provides the strategic framework, policies, and accountability needed to support effective asset management.
This guideline is ideal for professionals who lead, influence, or support asset management activities, including those who integrate asset management into organizational strategy, develop policies and plans, apply standards and regulations, foster an asset management culture, manage or maintain physical assets, or support the development of leadership capability in others.
The guideline supports leaders to align asset management with organizational vision, communicate its value, clarify roles and decision‑making responsibilities, make ethical and risk‑based decisions, and promote continuous learning and improvement.
